FAQ's

When is the best time to control Crabgrass?

In the Richmond market area, your first pre-emergent application should be applied by the end of March. Our treatment program offers season long control.

What is post-emergent weed control?

Post-emergent weed control is for dicot, or broadleaf weeds. Dandelions, Chickweed, and Clover are examples. This treatment is usually started in the spring.

Can grass seed be planted in spring when I am controlling weeds?

For the most part, no. There are a few exceptions. Overseeding lawns for best effect should be left until the fall season, allowing time to develop stronger, deeper root systems to withstand the summer stress of drought and heat.

When is the best time to aerate my lawn?

Power core aeration is most beneficial in the fall season as it helps relieve soil compaction from a hot summer and enhances the overseeding process.

How do I get rid of moles?

Moles feed on insects and earthworms throughout lawns. (Ask about our mole repellent services!) Our specially formulated insect control products target specific pests with insecticides both spring and fall.

When mowing, how high should I set my mower deck?

During the cooler months, turf grass can be mowed slightly lower at a height of 2.5 to 3 inches. During the warmer months, for best results, raise the mower deck to cut at 3.5 to 4 inches. Always start out the season with a sharpened mower blade.

When is the best time to water my lawn?

Good irrigation practices encourage watering between 5am and 9am. Watering patterns may vary by time of year.

What are the brown spots I see in my lawn during the summer?

Lawn disease is prevalent in this area during the summer months and can be controlled through the use of fungicides.
